AltÜst — UI Design for a Platform Supporting Local Hip-Hop Culture
AltÜst is a platform founded to empower local hip-hop artists, producers, and young creatives by giving them visibility, support, and a community-driven space to grow. The goal of the redesign was to create a UI that reflects the bold and energetic nature of hip-hop culture while remaining clean, functional, and accessible for everyday use.
Design Approach
Dark, Cinematic Aesthetic
A predominantly dark interface was chosen to evoke the raw, stage-like atmosphere of underground hip-hop culture. This allows album covers, artist photos, and demo visuals to stand out, creating a strong visual presence.
Bold Typography & High Contrast
Large, expressive headings and clean body text create a confident visual hierarchy—matching the energy and attitude of hip-hop while ensuring readability across all sections.
Strong Visual Rhythm
Grid-based card layouts for demos, artists, and blogs create a structured browsing experience. Each card showcases artwork and artist identity in a visually impactful way.
Artist-Centered UI
The platform highlights the artist as the hero.
Artist pages, demo cards, and voting modules all focus on bringing attention to the creator and their work.
